Benjamin Powell
Founder
Ben established Pillar during the COVID pandemic in 2020 to help young people recover and return to their pre-covid lives. Since then, he’s overseen Pillar’s expansion to offer formal qualifications, employability services for NEET young people and international students, and events to nurture artistic talent within communities.
Before founding Pillar in 2020, Ben spent most of his career as a contract manager in the youth sector, where he was responsible for delivering youth and employability provision to over 5,000 people annually in the UK. Ben has also worked abroad, delivering youth programmes and overcoming large logistical and cultural challenges in China, Ghana and Holland.
Katie Lloyd
Projects Coordinator
Katie joined the pillar team in 2021 at the start of our Culture Camps Project. Katie plans and books our projects, and, as a trained Special Educational Needs teacher, she’s instrumental in helping us design our curriculum to ensure we have the necessary adaptations in place for those with additional needs.
Kate Churchyard
Engagement & Outreach Coordinator
Kate has an extensive background in outreach and engagement, primarily in the higher education sector. Kate spent years working with low income and high need pupils in schools all over the country, helping them to raise their aspirations and become first generation students against the odds.
Joseph Powell
Engagement & Events Officer
Joseph is the newest addition to the team – having just finished his A-levels, he helps us keep our organisation youth focused. Joseph is an extremely versatile member of the team, able to turn his hand to anything required of him!
James Waggott
Photographer
While James heads up his own production company, he does enough work with us as a freelancer to be considered a member of the core team! James has been extremely helpful in our recent contracts. He has a real knack for teaching filming and editing techniques in a really fun and engaging way, and always provides some great action shots for all of our events.

We have over 20 freelancers we work with on a regular basis, from employment advisors, to workshop facilitators, to artists of every discipline you can imagine! Pillar’s rapid growth wouldn’t have been possible without them and we look forward to growing our network further, as we continue to become the pillar of the communities we serve.
